Challenges of the Fire Department.
Todays fire administration faces various difficulties, perhaps the greatest test that undermined our reality is the winding down of open help. Since the decrease in our economy, numerous legislators have made firemen their foe and assaulted the fire administration. As of late, local group of fire-fighters compensation have been accused for our municipalityââ¬â¢s desperate monetary condition. A lion's share of the general population has observed these assaults and has taken the side of the lawmakers. Through our activities, we should endeavor to recover the publics regard and trust. Without the publics bolster the local group of fire-fighters would not exist.Throughout our countries history the fire administration has been held in high regard and very much regarded. It has taken ages to set up this notoriety and now it is presently dependent upon us to convey and expand upon this establishment. Most of firemen work superbly here and there obligation however it is the misguided thin king of a couple of people that dishonor and stain our organizationââ¬â¢s notoriety. Just over the most recent couple of years, there have been various charges against firemen that incorporate; murder, DUI, requesting prostitution and amazing larceny. All these charges are from inside the Las Vegas Valley and don't make reference to the charges looked by our siblings and sisters the country over. These accuses coupled of political assaults have brought about disintegrating the connection between the fire administration and the overall population. It is up to our age of firemen to prevail upon our residents and recover their trust. We should do this by playing out our obligations with the outmost demonstrable skill and client care as a primary concern. Everything starts with our appearance. Regardless of whether we remember it or not, we are judged by our activities as well as by our appearance. Our regalia and lead must mirror the polished skill that is normal from the local group of fire-fighters. Our gear should likewise be very much kept up and sorted out. We should show pride and deal with the gear allowed to us by the general population. During crisis calls we should show sympathy and seeing regardless of whether by our definition the call doesn't warrant a crisis reaction. We are in the matter of serving the general population and we should show our citizenââ¬â¢s that we are here for them and are eager to react and alleviate their crisis paying little mind to the hour of day.Once a crisis is relieved, it ought to be our objective to have our citizenââ¬â¢s totally fulfilled and be amazed to level of care gave by their local group of fire-fighters. We ought not leave the scene until our clients needs have been totally met. I comprehend and have reacted to calls where individuals are not exactly well disposed, yet we should likewise treat these clients with a similar degree of polished skill and regard. Our calling places us under the examination of the publicââ¬â¢s eye and we should not disregard the various observers that are consistently on scene. With the fame of PDAs and cameras our every word and activities could undoubtedly be recorded and posted on informal organization locales. We have all profited by the difficult work and devotion of past firemen. We can't underestimate their exertion and we should make a solid effort to modify our open picture. We should police and hold ourselves to a better quality. Our direct here and there obligation must mirror that of an expert on the off chance that we need our inheritance to proceed and be passed forward.

ââ¬ÅA View From the Bridge explores the difficulties migrants face in adapting to a new culture.ââ¬Â - Literature Essay Samples
The heart of conflict in Arthur Millerââ¬â¢s A View From the Bridge is the struggle to reconcile the array of conflicting social, moral and legal laws to which an individual is bound and to determine which of those deserves oneââ¬â¢s primary allegiance. This struggle exists, to a greater or lesser extent, in all individuals, yet becomes far more apparent and problematic for those encountering the challenge of trying to acclimatize to a new culture. In this play, that new culture is the complex one of Red Hook and its new inhabitants must ââ¬Å"settle for half,â⬠learning to accommodate Sicilian tradition with US law. Alfieri represents the successful negotiation of such a combination, understanding the balance between American legislation- a ââ¬Å"specific,â⬠rational law- and Italian customs, which value loyalty, integrity, honour and, above all, community. However, the play demonstrates that adapting as Alfieri has is not such a simple task, and much conflict aris es between Marco and Eddie, both of whom are inextricably bound to Italian traditions and seek indiscriminate punishment, which the law of the land has not been designed to provide. It is this inability to ââ¬Å"settle for half,â⬠to become ââ¬Å"civilized, quite Americanâ⬠and accept US law over primal justice that spurs the two men on towards a tragic conclusion.Alfieri firmly dictates that ââ¬Å"it is better to settle for half- it must be!â⬠As a man of Italian descent, he understands and respects the rich traditions of Italian society, remembering a time when people were ââ¬Å"justly shot by unjust men,â⬠acknowledging the seedy mishaps that occur on the docks (with cases of whisky ââ¬Å"slippingâ⬠from the nets as they ââ¬Å"are inclined to doâ⬠) and turning a blind eye to the illegal smuggling of submarines that the community supports. Yet Alfieri has studied and practices American law- he is firm that this must be the overruling authority i n society, declaring that ââ¬Å"there is no other law,â⬠and tries to coerce Eddie to accept that ââ¬Å"the law is very specific;â⬠it is based on rationality rather than emotion. At the same time, Alfieri seems to acknowledge that US law can never really achieve justice in the traditional sense- ââ¬Å"only God makes justice,â⬠he explains, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m only a lawyer.â⬠He has found a balance that allows him to be ââ¬Å"quite civilized, quite American,â⬠and he ââ¬Å"likes it better.â⬠While Eddie initially seems to have successfully negotiated the combination of roles of being an Italian and an American, a husband and an uncle, and a family man and a longshoreman, it soon emerges that he is inherently unable to reconcile the conflicting moral and social laws that simultaneously demand his allegiance. As an American citizen, Eddie is bound by the law of the nation, including laws in which he does not believe, but he is comfortable with pushing the boundaries of such legislation, clearly viewing authority as the enemy as he asserts ââ¬Å"this is the United States government youââ¬â¢re playin with, this is the Immigration Bureau.â⬠Indeed, Red Hook is a society in which ââ¬Å"the law has not been a friendly idea,â⬠an attitude stemmed from a rich history of ââ¬Å"three thousand years of distrust,â⬠and both petty and organized crime are an accepted part of daily life, as reflected as Eddie supports the captainââ¬â¢s right to be ââ¬Å"pieced offâ⬠and promises to ââ¬Å"bust a bagâ⬠of coffee for his family from the ship that he is unloading. For Eddie maintains an intense commitment to an unwritten subcultural law demanding communal conduct, a tradition that values loyalty and honour and takes pride in supporting illegal immigrants. Eddie demonstrates his fervent belief in such traditions through the parable of Vinny Bolzano, asserting that the boy deserved to be treated so harshly for hi s betrayal- ââ¬Å"a guy do a think like that? Howââ¬â¢s he gonna show his face?â⬠This is emphasized later as Alfieri reminds Eddie that the only legal issue regarding the cousins is ââ¬Å"the way they entered the country,â⬠and Eddieââ¬â¢s emphatic reaction ââ¬Å"oh Jesus, no, I wouldnââ¬â¢t do nothing about that,â⬠reflects how strongly he values his allegiance to subcultural laws.In addition to this, Eddie endorses traditional familial values, a domestic law that binds him to his wife and niece, illustrated through the way in which Eddie has ââ¬Å"worked like a dogâ⬠¦walked plenty of days hungryâ⬠just to provide for his family, and he respects a natural law, which prevents him from acknowledging his improper feelings. The conflicting demands of all these laws, each fighting for his primary allegiance, create such intense confusion that Eddie ultimately succumbs to the law for which he has the least regard. As he reports Marco and Rodolpho to the Immigration, the very institution that he views as the enemy, Eddie ultimately betrays every other law that he values.Marco exists as a symbol of primitive justice, dissatisfied with American law and refusing to accept that ââ¬Å"if (Eddie) obeys the law, he lives.â⬠He is in complete disbelief that US legislation cannot provide justice, asserting bitterly ââ¬Å"I do not understand this countryâ⬠and challenging bellicosely ââ¬Å"all the law is not in a book!â⬠although Alfieri firmly assures him that ââ¬Å"there is no other law.â⬠Marco, like Eddie, feels that justice is inextricably intertwined with honour, and the Italian values entrenched within him dictate that honour is worth killing or dying for. He considers it ââ¬Å"dishonourableâ⬠to allow Eddie to live, but he has given his word not to kill. Marco finds a loophole in this agreement in the ensuing fight with Eddie, and the older man dies by his own knife, restoring ââ¬Å"justiceâ⬠in Marcoââ¬â¢s eyes yet allowing him to keep his word. Rodolpho, in contrast to his older brother, is eager to embrace American culture; he is enthralled by ââ¬Å"all those lightsâ⬠and enthusiastically spends his hard-earned money on records, movie magazines and American clothes, which Eddie scorns as ââ¬Å"a snappy new jacketâ⬠¦a pointy pair of new shoes.â⬠He declares ââ¬Å"me, I want to be an American!â⬠and his language leans towards the flamboyant, lyrical expression that he admires, likening Catherine to a little bird. However, Rodolphoââ¬â¢s enthusiasm for a new culture inculcates much suspicion in Eddie, who views such extreme and rapid adaptation to America as inappropriate, for this is something that even he, who has lived here all his life, has been unable to do. Thus Eddie uses Rodolphoââ¬â¢s zeal for America as a base for a campaign against the younger man, claiming that he is ââ¬Å"only bowin to his passportâ⬠and suggesting that he is using Catherine simply to gain the rights to be an American citizen. His enthusiasm for New York is turned against him- his desire to visit Broadway causes Eddie to later accuse ââ¬Å"heââ¬â¢s got bright lights in his head, Broadwayâ⬠¦heââ¬â¢s lookin for his break, thatââ¬â¢s all.â⬠In reality, it appears that Rodolphoââ¬â¢s enthusiasm is simply his way of making the most of the little opportunities that he has. In an uncharacteristically somber and candid outburst of emotion, Rodolpho shouts ââ¬Å"only work we donââ¬â¢t have! That is the only wonder here, work!, but his unusual zest for life and his overflowing optimisim, claiming that he will ââ¬Å"start to be something wonderful hereâ⬠are enough to cause suspicion and contempt in the jaded inhabitants of Red Hook, who are resigned to their hard, monotonous lifestyle, no longer aspiring for romantic dreams of a better life as Rodolpho does.

From Harvard to Carolina
From Harvard. . . To many, Harvard exemplifies the epitome of the ââ¬Å"best and most elite college in Americaâ⬠. When I was young, I dreamed of going to Harvard. In other words, I had caught Ivy-its. To me, acceptance at Harvard meant success and accomplishment. Little did I realize my blithe and shallow interpretation of my college thought process. Slowly, but gradually, I realized that the best college in the US was not necessarily the best college for me. Instead of focusing all my efforts on the ââ¬Å"best college in the USâ⬠, Harvard, I should be searching for the best college MATCH for me. It took me a while to find that right college, but I knew that it was out there somewhere. It was thanks to a Catalyst Conference that I finally found the right college for me. The Catalyst Conference was a weekend long program at UNC-Chapel Hill (Carolina) to raise leaders of social change. Little did I realize how much this conference would impact my college decision. Th e Catalyst Conference instilled in me a passion for UNC-Chapel Hill as well as social change. I realized that from everywhere I looked and everyone I had met on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus that I felt strangely at ease with myself, a feeling that I had not come across at any university I had visited thus far, not even Harvard. I felt right at home. Following that realization, a moment of exhilaration and thrill filled my senses as I absorbed the twirling leaves against winterââ¬â¢s grey and the breeze that swept through the entire campus. For that single moment and nearly every moment after, I could not imagine going anywhere, but UNC-Chapel Hill. . . Needless to say, the Catalyst Conference experience changed my college decision. UNC-Chapel Hill is now my #1 school. However, I will still be applying to Harvard and other universities with Carolina never too far from my thoughts. I have become and always will be a Carolina fan at the heart. I will always remember the Catalyst Con ference as my first taste of the college experience and its enduring impact on me. To the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. . .
